LESSON PLANS
This is a really fun lesson! It is one of my favorites to teach and I used it on my first day with my 2nd Grade class in Arts Bridge.
Tip: I cut out my own puzzle pieces from colorful poster paper so I can better illustrate shape and space qualities with my the puzzle pieces. Such as high/tall, medium, low/small, jagged, straight, curved, etc. I have used puzzle pieces from a regular store-bought puzzle, but I have found that cutting out larger puzzle pieces from the poster paper has worked better.

This is a high-energy lesson plan. The students got a little worn out! It was also a challenge to travel without running into one another or desks, but they did a great job!
These images are pictures of the posters I made to help the children visualize the concepts.

I adapted this lesson from its original form written by a few friends of mine. It has been the most successful of my lesson plans thus far teaching in my 2nd grade class. The students loved holding onto the physical stars that I borrowed from a fellow teacher. This is a fun lesson plan!

I adapted this lesson from its original form written by a few friends of mine. It was also a very fun lesson. One thing I would add to it, would be a physical object for the students to explore with, perhaps a scarf with stars on it. The students grasped the concept really well and seemed to enjoy themselves.

I had so many ideas for this lesson it was hard to decide what I wanted to do. I decided on having the students explore the concepts while I lead them through movement. In recent lesson plans, I have had them listen to a concept, then stand up and try it in their bodies. With this lesson I did the opposite by having them dance the whole Rock cycle, then had them sit down and learn the words and what each section meant.
I enjoyed the music, the actual rocks that I brought in and the story book that I planned to read at the end.

I love this lesson plan! There are so many fun elements to it - the music, the books, the explorative movement, and also the performances of the students. Then there is even coloring included! The books that I found online are really fun books to look at and have fun facts that the students enjoyed.
